Who We Are

A Few Good Men, Inc., a 501(c) (3) organization was founded in 1993 by a few committed men in Monroe, North Carolina. They saw a need to make a positive influence on the educational, political and socio-economic climate in Union County. You will see in our Bios that we come from varied backgrounds and experiences but we share the same vision for our community. We plan to stay Consistent and Persistent with the community activities that are listed below because they are our top priorities annually.

What We Do

  • Provide two $500 scholarships to students in Union County Public Schools*.

  • Provide a $2,500  scholarship to a student in Union County Public Schools in honor of Robert Franklin Williams*.

  • Sponsor a Citizen of the Year Banquet in honor of an outstanding citizen that has made a difference in his/her church or community-at-large.

  • Sponsor a Superintendent forum with other local organizations and churches.

  • Provide Thanksgiving Baskets to families in Union County.

  • Annual college tour with local high school students.


*These scholarships are funded by donations from local churches, organizations, businesses and individuals.

Citizen of the Year

It is vital to recognize citizens in the community that have impacted the quality of life in Union County.  Therefore we have developed an annual recognition program for citizens that have made a positive influence on either the educational, political, health, or socio-economic climate in his/her community.
Any Union County citizen who has made an exceptional or outstanding contribution to the community and maintains a wholesome attitude that fosters meaningful relationships with all citizens is encouraged to apply.


Criteria

  1. A person that has demonstrated that family life is the basic unit of society.

  2. A person that has demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of his/her fellow citizens.

  3. A person that has made a difference in the lives of others through an organization or individual effort.

  4. A person that volunteers or works with an organization to impact the quality of life of others in the community.

  5. A person that has created an innovative/breakthrough service or opportunity for others in the community.
